Our Developmental League program ("D-League") is a part of BGSC's mission to provide soccer-playing opportunities to every player. Every fall and spring, we are teamed up with the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department and the Bowling Green State University Men's Soccer Team to provide a one-of-a-kind, recreational soccer experience to families within our community. We have a training format that provides elite coaching with recreational prices! Each season we have qualified college player-coaches. Each coach will be responsible for mastering and running a specific drill each practice. Each D-league team will rotate to every station, which is great because the players will be learning a variety of skills.
This format differentiates itself from other "house leagues" because it takes the stress away from parent-coaches, while ensuring the kids have quality coaching through the college player-coaches. Parent-coaches will still have a role, but their main responsibility is to get to know their players and help them develop a passion for soccer. The benefits of this system are huge developmentally because less time is spent corralling the kids and more time is spent having fun in the context of soccer. Our biggest goal of the D-League program is to ensure that the players have FUN and develop a passion for the game!
D-League also runs in conjunction with our travel program at BGSC, which allows the potential for players in D-league to progress to one of our many travel teams. In fact, many of our current travel players are D-League alum. We are confident that this training format provides an excellent pathway to travel soccer.
